1st September Update
Today Hugh's fundraiser for RCD Foundation has reached the $2000 mark which is HUGE. Donations are being matched for the next few days, so if you have been considering donating, now is the time – eg. if you donate $10 it will be doubled to $20. We have two weeks left until this finishes up (ending with the fun run). We're so proud of what he's achieved so far.
Timely, today is the start of childhood cancer awareness month. Each September comes with mixed feelings, as two years ago we were in the very early days in hospital with Hugh, recovering from surgery and having zero idea of what was ahead of us. There was relief that he survived surgery, but fear of what the future would look like, and we just had to get through each day and not think any further than that.
I was hoping to share a "nice photo" from 1 September 2022, but who am I kidding – Hugh still had cables and tubes coming from all directions (less than initially, but still a lot), he was very pale, he couldn't open his eyes properly and he couldn't move his head or neck without support. So I'm sharing this photo instead, which was our view from Hugh's room for about a month. This was my view where I could forget about all of the medical stuff going on behind me (out of sight of this photo) even just for a moment. Sunbeams hitting each of those coloured shards gave me hope that we'd be out enjoying the sunshine again soon. I don't take the warmth of sunshine for granted anymore, it hits differently now

Hugh passes on a big thank you to helping him reach his goal of $1000. He said to me yesterday: "I want to change my goal to $1500 now because maybe someone will flush it up a bit higher". FLUSH 🤣 we'll work on his words...
He did a very happy post run yesterday (including a bunch of in-person deliveries locally), with more to go out tomorrow. You have all made his month, and it's only just begun ✨

I'm fundraising for kids brain tumour research
This is a cause very close to my heart. I’m doing Connor’s Run to
raise money to go towards kids brain tumour research – I want to see
treatments get better, and maybe even a cure one day.
RCD
Foundation do more than just help with research. They organised music therapy
sessions for me that helped me feel connected while I was getting back
to school and living life. I got to sing, play musical instruments and
write songs with my music therapist Megan. It was something special I looked forward to each week when
I was struggling to do much else.
Now I'm able to walk long
distances again, participating in this event is something that I can do
to support research and the other kids also battling with brain tumours. My whole family will be walking with me!
Together I am sure we
can find a way to make brain cancer go the way of the dinosaurs. Any
donation you can make will make a difference to the future
of many kids.
